About These Birds

Grey Pratincole

Grey Pratincole: 17–19 cm, pale grey pratincole with long pointed wings, white underparts, and distinctive peach-grey head. Resident along large sandy rivers of West and Central Africa; less tied to rocky rapids than Rock Pratincole. Hawks insects aerially. Sedentary. Forages along sandy riverbanks and bars.

Bronze-winged Courser

Bronze-winged Courser: 25–28 cm, large nocturnal courser with glossy bronze wing-coverts, dark brown upperparts, and a red eye-ring. Resident in dry miombo and acacia woodland of sub-Saharan Africa from Senegal to Ethiopia and south to Zimbabwe. Insectivorous; most active at night. Cryptic and difficult to see in daytime.
