Psophodidae

Whipbirds and wedgebills; ~5 species of medium-sized, secretive Australian passerines. Named for the distinctive explosive whip-crack call of male Eastern and Western Whipbirds. Skulk in dense undergrowth of forest and mallee scrub. Males and females perform elaborate antiphonal duets.
