Marquesan Swamphen (Porphyrio paepae) is an extinct flightless swamphen known only from subfossil bones from the Marquesas Islands, French Polynesia. Lost following Polynesian settlement and later European contact. Part of the broader pattern of Pacific island rail extinctions linked to human arrival and introduced rats.
Black-tailed Crake
Black-tailed Crake (Zapornia bicolor) is a small 19–22 cm crake of the eastern Himalayas and South-East Asia hill forests. Dark olive-brown above; chestnut below; greenish bill; red eye and legs. Inhabits wet hill-forest clearings, rice terraces, and mountain marsh edges from Nepal east to southern China and Indochina.
