Hooded Grebe (Podiceps gallardoi) is a medium 32–38 cm grebe endemic to the Patagonian plateau lakes of Argentina. Striking black and white head with pale reddish-orange crown and crest. Critically Endangered; population declined from ~3,000 to ~800 since the 1980s.
Alaotra Grebe
Alaotra Grebe (Tachybaptus rufolavatus) is an extinct small grebe formerly endemic to Lake Alaotra, Madagascar. Pale buff-brown, weak-winged, likely flightless or near-flightless. Last confirmed record 1985; declared extinct in 2010.
