Geographic Range & Migration

How to Tell Them Apart
Wattled Guan
Uniformly glossy greenish-black; prominent pendulous yellow-and-blue bare throat wattle; no white wing patches or streaking; legs dark grey. Striking yellow wattle is the sole bold adornment.

Dark brown above; prominent pale buff-white supercilium; bare red throat; breast streaked white; wing coverts and secondaries edged rusty-rufous; lower belly rufous-chestnut; tail dark.

Inhabits Atlantic Forest, cerrado woodland edges, and humid forests in eastern and central Brazil and bordering countries. Feeds on fruits, leaves, and seeds in forest canopy. Near Threatened due to Atlantic Forest loss and hunting; one of the most common guans in its range.
