Talons

Định Nghĩa

The sharp, curved claws of raptors used to seize and kill prey.

Giải Thích Chi Tiết

Talons are keratinous sheaths over bony toe bones, continuously grown and worn. Their curvature radius correlates with prey size — eagle talons are highly curved for grasping large struggling prey, while osprey talons are also reversible (the outer toe rotates backward) for gripping slippery fish. Falcons rely more on a notched bill than talons to kill prey, while owls deploy talons almost exclusively for dispatching prey.
