Định Nghĩa
A critical stopover site where migratory birds rest and refuel before continuing their journey.
Giải Thích Chi Tiết
Staging areas differ from brief stopovers in that birds remain for days or weeks, building the substantial fat reserves (hyperphagia) needed for long transoceanic or transcontinental flights. The Yellow Sea coast, Delaware Bay (for horseshoe crab eggs), and the Wadden Sea tidal flats are globally critical staging areas for shorebirds. The loss or degradation of even a single major staging area can cause population-level declines across an entire flyway.
