Birdsong

Định Nghĩa

Complex, often melodious vocalizations used primarily by males for territory defense and mate attraction.

Giải Thích Chi Tiết

Birdsong is learned in most oscine passerines through a sensitive period in early life, when juveniles memorize a tutor's song template and then practice (subsong) until their vocalizations crystallize into the adult song. Song dialects develop when local populations share learned song variants. Males with larger repertoires or higher-quality songs often win territories and attract more mates, making song an honest signal of genetic quality, age, and developmental health.
