Black-breasted Buttonquail

Black-breasted Buttonquail (Turnix melanogaster) is a medium 17–19 cm, striking buttonquail endemic to eastern Australia. Female has bold black face, throat and breast with white spotting; male duller. Inhabits dry vine thickets and rainforest edges in Queensland and northern New South Wales.

Common Buttonquail

Common Buttonquail (Turnix sylvaticus) is a small 13–16 cm buttonquail of Africa, southern Europe, and South Asia. Sandy-brown with fine dark streaking; orange-buff breast. Inhabits dry grassland, scrub, and open woodland from southern Spain and West Africa east to India. Polyandrous; female makes deep purring call.
