Mayr's Forest Rail (Rallicula mayri), 19 cm. Similar to other Rallicula; dark chestnut with faint spotting. Endemic to the central highlands of New Guinea at elevations above 1,800 m. Inhabits dense montane undergrowth. Omnivore. Least Concern; poorly studied.

White-winged Flufftail (Sarothrura ayresi), 14 cm. Very rare; male dark with conspicuous white wing patches visible in flight. Breeds in high-altitude Afro-alpine marshes of Ethiopia; non-breeding range in South Africa. Omnivore. Critically Endangered; fewer than 250 mature individuals.
