White Swamphen
White Swamphen (Porphyrio albus) is an extinct all-white swamphen formerly endemic to Lord Howe Island, Australia. Known from specimens collected around 1790 and early drawings; had reduced wings indicating flightlessness or near-flightlessness. Extirpated by hunting after European discovery. Related to Australasian Swamphen.
Tasmanian Native-hen
Tasmanian Native-hen (Tribonyx mortierii) is a 43–51 cm large flightless rail endemic to Tasmania. Dark olive-brown with white flank spots, red eye, and upright tail. Inhabits grasslands, farmland, and wetland margins. Social; defends territories in small family groups. Grazes mainly on grass and herbs. Vulnerable to predation by introduced foxes.
