Slender, 31–35 cm pigeon with grey plumage, brown wings, iridescent wing patches, and a conspicuous upright black-tipped crest. Widespread across Australia in open woodland, grassland, and farmland. Granivore of seeds on the ground. Commonly seen in pairs or small flocks. The crest raises when alarmed. Least Concern.

Red-moustached Fruit-dove (Ptilinopus mercierii), 27 cm. Green with a red moustachial streak and orange underparts; endemic to the Marquesas Islands. Last confirmed on Nuku Hiva and Hiva Oa. Possibly Extinct; last reliably recorded in the 1970s. Threatened by introduced rats and cats.
