A large bustard (70-80 cm) found in the Sahel zone of northern Africa from Mauritania to Sudan. Sandy-brown plumage. Omnivore of arid grasslands and semi-desert. Classified as Near Threatened due to hunting and habitat degradation across the Sahel.

Lesser Florican

A small bustard (45-51 cm) found in grasslands of the Indian subcontinent. Males in breeding plumage have a black head and neck with an elongated nuchal crest. Critically Endangered due to severe grassland habitat loss. Males perform spectacular leaping display flights.
