Madagascar Forest Rail (Mentocrex kioloides), 22 cm. Small; chestnut-brown above, grey below with a red bill. Endemic to eastern Madagascar primary rainforest. Omnivore: invertebrates and plant material in dense undergrowth. Least Concern; still relatively common in intact eastern humid forest.

Slender-billed Flufftail (Sarothrura watersi), 14 cm. Very poorly known; brown with a thin bill adapted for probing. Endemic to eastern Madagascar, recorded from a handful of wetland localities. Omnivore. Endangered; extremely rarely recorded; habitat loss continues.
