Auckland Islands Shag
63 cm. Black and white; orange caruncles. Endemic to Auckland Islands, New Zealand subantarctic. Vulnerable; total population estimated at only a few thousand. Feeds on fish and invertebrates in surrounding cold ocean waters. Non-migratory; restricted to the island group.
Spotted Shag
70 cm. Spotted brown and white upperparts in breeding; pale below; blue orbital ring; yellow feet. Endemic to New Zealand coast and offshore islands. Feeds on fish and invertebrates in coastal kelp beds. Near Threatened; nests on cliff ledges.
