About These Birds
Black-headed Bunting
The Black-headed Bunting is a medium-sized bunting; breeding males are brilliantly colored with a jet-black head, chestnut back, and bright yellow underparts, while females are more cryptically brown. It breeds in open scrublands, farmland, and steppe from southeastern Europe through the Middle East to central Asia, migrating to the Indian subcontinent in winter.
