Somali Courser: 20–23 cm, pale sandy courser with buff-white underparts and a white supercilium restricted to the arid Horn of Africa—Somalia, Ethiopia, and Djibouti. Inhabits dry open plains and semi-desert. Insectivorous; runs rapidly on long legs. Largely sedentary in semi-arid habitat. Resembles Cream-coloured Courser.

Madagascar Pratincole: 22–25 cm, dark brown pratincole with a white supercilium, white belly, and reddish-brown underwings. Breeds on rocky rivers of Madagascar; migrates to winter on the East African coast from Kenya to Mozambique. Aerial insectivore. Regional migrant between Madagascar and East Africa. NT.
