Inhabits open habitats including pine savannas, grasslands, shrubby clearings, and agricultural edges from Honduras to Costa Rica. Forages in coveys for seeds and invertebrates. Least Concern; adapted to disturbed and semi-open landscapes in Central American Pacific lowlands.
