About These Birds

Congo Peafowl

Africa's only true peafowl (~1.28 kg), family Phasianidae, restricted to lowland rainforests of the Congo Basin. Males are deep iridescent blue-green with a white crown tuft; females are chestnut and green. Feeds on fruits, seeds, and invertebrates. Near Threatened from ongoing deforestation.

A tiny Phasianidae quail (~42 g) of tall grasses and moist savanna across sub-Saharan Africa. Males have a slaty-blue face and rusty-buff flanks; one of Africa's smallest birds.
