Clark's Grebe
Clark's Grebe (Aechmophorus clarkii) is a large 55–74 cm grebe of western North America, recently split from Western Grebe. White surrounds red eye (vs. black in Western Grebe); bright orange-yellow bill. Inhabits large freshwater lakes with tule and cattail margins; winters on coastal seas. Performs identical rushing-water display with mate.
Least Grebe
Least Grebe (Tachybaptus dominicus) is the smallest New World grebe at 21–27 cm. Dark grey overall in breeding plumage with yellow eye, blackish cap, and short bill. Inhabits small freshwater ponds, ditches, and marshes from the southern USA through Central and South America to northern Argentina. Feeds on small fish and aquatic invertebrates.
