A tiny hummingbird (7-8 cm) found in humid forests from eastern Colombia and Venezuela through Amazonia to Brazil, Bolivia, and Argentina. Males have an amethyst-purple throat. Nectarivore of forest edges and clearings. One of the most widespread woodstars.
