About These Birds

African Collared-dove

Small dove, 26–29 cm, pale pinkish-grey with a black hindneck collar and white tail corners. Native to arid zones of sub-Saharan Africa from Senegal to Somalia and south to Tanzania. The ancestor of the domesticated Barbary Dove (ring-necked dove). Granivore of grass seeds and small grains in dry savanna, farmland, and desert edge. Least Concern.

Small-medium green-pigeon, 25–28 cm; male has a striking pink-lilac neck and chest with a grey head and green body; female is green with a yellowish face. Widespread in lowland and coastal forest, mangroves, and gardens across Southeast Asia from Myanmar to the Philippines. Frugivore of figs and forest fruits. Least Concern.
