About These Birds

Chestnut Wood-quail

A medium-sized New World quail (~340 g) of family Odontophoridae, with rich chestnut underparts and brownish upperparts. Endemic to the western and central Andes of Colombia at 1,200–2,500 m elevation. Inhabits humid montane cloud forest. Forages on the forest floor for seeds and invertebrates in pairs or small groups. Least Concern; restricted Colombian endemic but not currently threatened.

Nahan's Partridge

A small partridge (~280 g) of family Odontophoridae, dark reddish-brown with black barring. Endemic to lowland primary rainforest in Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Highly terrestrial, foraging on the forest floor for seeds, berries, and invertebrates.
