Band-rumped Storm-petrel

Band-rumped Storm-petrel, 19–21 cm, breeds on Atlantic and Pacific volcanic islands including the Azores, Canaries, and Galápagos. Sooty brown with a white rump band; similar to Leach's but straighter wingtips and steadier flight. Multiple cryptic species may be involved. Planktivore; widespread pelagic.

Leach's Storm-petrel

Leach's Storm-petrel, 19–22 cm, is one of the most numerous pelagic seabirds, with millions breeding in burrows in North Atlantic and North Pacific islands. Dark brown with white rump; erratic, butterfly-like flight unique among storm-petrels. Nocturnal at colonies; planktivore. Long-distance transequatorial migrant.
