Black Heron
The Black Heron is a medium-sized, all-black heron famous for its unique canopy-feeding technique, in which it spreads its wings like an umbrella over the water to create shade and attract fish. Von Schrenck's Bittern (Ixobrychus eurhythmus) is a small, secretive heron of the family Ardeidae, named in honor of the German naturalist Leopold von Schrenck who explored the Amur region of the Russian Far East in the nineteenth century.
