Burchell's Courser
Burchell's Courser: 20–23 cm, distinctive courser with blue-grey hindneck, rufous breast, and black-and-white belly. Resident of arid Kalahari sand plains and dry open scrub of southern Africa from Namibia and Botswana to South Africa. Insectivorous; crepuscular and somewhat nocturnal. Nomadic, following rainfall.
Black-winged Pratincole
Black-winged Pratincole: 24–28 cm, similar to Collared Pratincole but with entirely black underwings and no chestnut in wing-linings. Breeds on dry steppes of Kazakhstan and southern Russia; migrates to winter in sub-Saharan Africa. NT. Aerial insectivore. Declining due to steppe cultivation. Long-distance migrant.
