Oriental Plover: 22–25 cm, tall long-legged plover with a broad chestnut breast in breeding male, white supercilium, and erect posture. Breeds in Mongolia and northern China; migrates to Australia via Southeast Asia, wintering on open dry grassland and stubble fields. Long-distance migrant. Insectivorous. Large flocks at staging areas.

Inhabits open sandy riverbanks and gravel bars of major rivers from Venezuela south to Argentina. Feeds on invertebrates and small vertebrates. Largely resident; some local seasonal movements.
