Double-striped Thick-knee (Burhinus bistriatus) is a large 43–50 cm stone-curlew of Central America and northern South America. Pale grey-brown above; two bold white supercilia; yellow eye; cryptic streaked pattern. Inhabits open dry grasslands, savanna, and agricultural land from Mexico to Brazil and the Caribbean. Largely nocturnal.

Senegal Thick-knee (Burhinus senegalensis) is a medium 32–38 cm stone-curlew of West and Central Africa and the Nile Valley. Sandy-grey above; white supercilium; large yellow eye; long pale legs. Inhabits open riverbanks, sandy shores, and open scrubby land often near water. Common along major African rivers including the Niger and Nile.
