About These Birds
Flesh-footed Shearwater
41–45 cm, wingspan 99–107 cm. All-dark sooty-brown with pale flesh-coloured feet and yellowish bill base. Breeds southern Indian Ocean islands and SW Australia; ranges to North Pacific. Near Threatened; bycatch concern. Feeds on fish and squid; follows fishing vessels.
Beck's Petrel
29 cm. Small; dark brown above and on breast; white belly. Critically Endangered; known from only two specimens collected 1928–1929 in the Solomon Islands and Bismarck Sea. No confirmed breeding site. Possibly nests on remote Pacific islands; one of the world's least-known birds.
