A medium-sized frogmouth (24-27 cm) found across the Philippines in lowland and montane forests. Rufous-brown plumage with fine white spots. Nocturnal insectivore. Sexually dimorphic, with rufous and brown morphs. Found from sea level to 2,000 m elevation.

Habitat & Range

Endemic to the Philippines, found on Luzon, Palawan, Mindanao, and adjacent islands. Resident in lowland and hill forest up to 1,500 m.

Night-active predator pouncing from low perches onto large invertebrates including beetles, scorpions, and centipedes.
