Henderson Island Reed-warbler

The Henderson Island Reed-warbler (<em>Acrocephalus taiti</em>) is a member of the family Acrocephalidae and is endemic to Henderson Island, a raised coral atoll in the Pitcairn Islands group of the South Pacific. It inhabits forest environments on this remote UNESCO World Heritage Site. Detailed plumage and behavioral descriptions of this species are limited in the available literature. It constructs a cup nest (CP), with incubation lasting approximately 15 days, and lays a clutch of 2 to 3 eggs. This species is assessed as Vulnerable, reflecting concern about its restricted range and the threats posed by introduced rats, which are known to predate nests and eggs on Henderson Island. Rat eradication efforts have been proposed and attempted on the island to protect this and other endemic species. Despite its isolation, Henderson Island's relatively intact habitat provides important refugia for this and several other endemic birds.
