Phaethontiformes

A small order of three tropicbird species (family Phaethontidae) characterized by long, ribbon-like central tail feathers, brilliant white and red-pink plumage, and powerful diving ability. Distributed pantropically across warm oceans worldwide. About 3 species. Ecologically important as pelagic seabirds nesting on tropical islands and atolls.
