Thinocoridae

Seedsnipes; 4 species of plump, sparrow-like shorebirds inhabiting high Andes and Patagonian steppe from Peru to Tierra del Fuego. Resemble sandpipers but eat seeds and plant material. Cryptically patterned; remarkably tolerant of cold. Pair for life. Related to Plains-wanderer of Australia.
