Red-backed Buttonquail
Red-backed Buttonquail (Turnix maculosus) is a small 14–16 cm buttonquail of Australia, New Guinea, and parts of South-East Asia. Pale sandy-buff with rufous-red back and upper wings; buff face with pale eye. Inhabits open tropical grasslands, scrub, and coastal heaths. Female larger; polyandrous with role-reversed courtship.
Black-breasted Buttonquail
Black-breasted Buttonquail (Turnix melanogaster) is a medium 17–19 cm, striking buttonquail endemic to eastern Australia. Female has bold black face, throat and breast with white spotting; male duller. Inhabits dry vine thickets and rainforest edges in Queensland and northern New South Wales.
