About These Birds

Sulu Bleeding-heart

Small ground dove, 22–25 cm, with brown and grey plumage and a red breast spot. Known only from the Sulu Archipelago in the southern Philippines, with very few modern records. Inhabits lowland forest remnants. Critically Endangered (possibly Extinct) due to near-total forest loss and hunting pressure in the Sulu Islands.

Adamawa Turtle-dove

Medium dove, 27–30 cm, with warm rufous-brown upperparts, a black neck collar, and a deep orange-red breast. Endemic to the highland plateaus and montane grasslands of northern Nigeria and Cameroon. Granivore of grass seeds and cultivated grains. Poorly studied and localised range. Least Concern.
