About These Birds
Luzon Bleeding-heart
Medium ground dove, 25–30 cm, with brown-grey upperparts and a dramatically blood-red breast patch on white underparts, resembling a chest wound. Endemic to Luzon in the Philippines. Inhabits primary and secondary lowland and hill forest. Terrestrial frugivore. Near Threatened due to deforestation and hunting.
Enggano Cuckoo-Dove
Slender cuckoo-dove, 32–35 cm, uniform warm cinnamon-rufous with minimal barring and a relatively short tail. Restricted to Enggano Island off the southwestern coast of Sumatra. Inhabits dense lowland forest. Frugivore. Vulnerable due to extremely small range and ongoing forest loss on the island.
