The Rodrigues Night-Heron (Nycticorax megacephalus) is an extinct species of night-heron belonging to the family Ardeidae, formerly endemic to the island of Rodrigues in the Mascarene island group in the southwestern Indian Ocean. The species is known from subfossil and fossil bones, supplemented by historical accounts by French colonists and castaways who visited or were stranded on Rodrigues in the seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries. The scientific name megacephalus means 'large-headed' in Greek, a morphological feature noted in the skeletal material compared to the smaller-headed continental night-herons.

Skeletal remains indicate that the Rodrigues Night-Heron was a large, robustly built night-heron, consistent with the island gigantism pattern seen in many endemic island herons. The proportions of wing elements suggest reduced flight musculature, consistent with a bird that had evolved in the absence of terrestrial predators on a small, isolated island. Rodrigues is approximately 560 km east of Mauritius and lies within a context of exceptional endemic avifauna, most of which was entirely lost following European contact.

Historical accounts from Rodrigues in the early eighteenth century (notably from the castaway Leguat and later sources) describe large wading birds that were tame, easy to catch, and abundant on the island's streams and coastal areas before European settlement transformed the landscape. The Rodrigues Night-Heron would have occupied freshwater streams, coastal lagoons, and wetland habitats on the island, feeding on fish, frogs, crustaceans, lizards, and other small prey in the manner typical of night-herons.

The extinction of the Rodrigues Night-Heron followed the colonization of Rodrigues by France from 1691 onward. Introduced rats, pigs, cats, and other mammals rapidly decimated the fauna, while hunting and habitat destruction completed the elimination of this and many other endemic species. The species is estimated to have gone extinct by the mid-eighteenth century.

The Rodrigues Night-Heron is listed as Extinct by the IUCN. It is one of several heron species lost from Mascarene islands, illustrating the devastating impact of European colonialism on island biodiversity.
