Large-billed Reed-warbler

The Large-billed Reed-warbler (<em>Acrocephalus orinus</em>) is a member of the family Acrocephalidae and is among the least-known species in its genus. It is associated with forest habitats, an unusual ecological niche for an Acrocephalus warbler, which typically favors wetlands and reed beds. Detailed plumage and behavioral descriptions of this species are limited in the available literature. A clutch size of 2 to 5 eggs has been recorded, though nesting behavior has not been thoroughly documented. This species was considered possibly extinct for much of the twentieth century before being rediscovered, and it remains poorly studied due to the rarity of confirmed observations. It is currently assessed as Least Concern, although data on its population size and trend are limited. Ongoing surveys in South and Southeast Asia are expected to improve understanding of its distribution and ecological requirements over time.
