The Mangareva Reed-warbler, Acrocephalus astrolabii, was a member of the family Acrocephalidae endemic to the Gambier Islands (Mangareva) in the southeastern Pacific Ocean. This species is now classified as Extinct, having been lost likely due to a combination of habitat destruction and the introduction of predatory mammals and other invasive species following human settlement of its island range, as has occurred with numerous Pacific island endemics. The Mangareva Reed-warbler inhabited forest and wetland environments on its native islands, habitats that were greatly altered after colonization. Detailed plumage and behavioral descriptions of this species are limited in the available literature, and no nesting or dietary records appear to exist in current sources. Its extinction represents the permanent loss of a unique lineage of the island reed-warbler group, several members of which across the Pacific have suffered similar fates. No clutch size, song, or population data are available. The species serves as a sobering example of the fragility of island bird species in the face of human-driven environmental change.
