Eurypygiformes

A small order of two ecologically distinct families: Eurypygidae (Sunbittern) and Rhynochetidae (Kagu). These ancient birds retain primitive features linking them to early avian lineages. Distributed in tropical Americas and New Caledonia. Significant for understanding deep-time bird evolution and Gondwanan biogeography.
