Kleptoparasitism ranges from opportunistic food-snatching to highly specialized piracy. Frigatebirds harass boobies and tropicbirds in aerial pursuits until the victim drops its prey. Skuas specialize in chasing seabirds, sometimes working in pairs to cut off escape. Arctic jaegers steal from terns so persistently that tern colonies produce excess fish specifically as a buffer against piracy. Some gulls steal from puffins as they emerge from burrows with beak-loads of sand eels.
