Tsingy Forest Rail
Tsingy Forest Rail (Mentocrex beankaensis), 21 cm. Similar to Madagascar Forest Rail but adapted to the Tsingy limestone formations in western Madagascar. Cryptic brown plumage; red bill. Omnivore in dense karst forest undergrowth. Vulnerable; restricted to the Beanka forest and adjacent tsingy habitats.
Slender-billed Flufftail
Slender-billed Flufftail (Sarothrura watersi), 14 cm. Very poorly known; brown with a thin bill adapted for probing. Endemic to eastern Madagascar, recorded from a handful of wetland localities. Omnivore. Endangered; extremely rarely recorded; habitat loss continues.
