About These Birds

Armenian Gull

Armenian Gull, 52–62 cm, breeds at mountain lakes in Turkey, Armenia, and Iran, wintering on Mediterranean coasts. Dark grey mantle, reddish orbital ring, yellow bill with red and black spot. Omnivore; forages at high-altitude lakes in summer and Mediterranean harbours in winter.

Mediterranean Gull

Mediterranean Gull, 36–38 cm, has expanded dramatically since the 1970s, breeding across Europe from the Black Sea to Britain. Pure white body, jet-black hood in breeding plumage — the only gull with entirely white wingtips. Piscivore and invertivore; nests in colonies, often with Black-headed Gulls.
