About These Birds
Black-headed Saltator
The Black-headed Saltator is a large, robust saltator with a glossy black head, white throat patch, olive-green upperparts, and pale gray underparts. It inhabits forest edges, dense second growth, gardens, and humid lowland forest from Mexico through Central America to Colombia and Ecuador. It feeds on large seeds, fruits, insects, and buds, using its heavy bill to crack open tough food items.
