Loud, nasal 'kee-kee-kee-KARRR' calls from N African rocky terrain; slightly lower than Red-legged Partridge. Alarm is rapid cackling cackle. Pairs call in duet at dawn on rocky hillsides and scrub.
Hazel Grouse
Very high-pitched, thin whistled 'tseeee-tsi-tsi-tsi-tseeee'; almost insect-like and easy to miss. Male and female calls differ slightly in pitch. Alarm is a sharp 'tsip'; wing drumming display rare.
