Pitcairn Reed-warbler

The Pitcairn Reed-warbler (<em>Acrocephalus vaughani</em>) is a member of the family Acrocephalidae and is endemic to forest habitats on Pitcairn Island in the South Pacific. It represents one of several island-endemic reed-warblers that have adapted to arboreal forest environments. Detailed plumage and behavioral descriptions of this species are limited in the available literature. It constructs a cup nest (CP), with incubation lasting approximately 14 days and a notably broad fledging period of 14 to 29 days, suggesting variable developmental rates. A clutch of 2 to 3 eggs is typical. This species is assessed as Endangered, reflecting its extremely restricted range and small total population on a single remote island. The threats of habitat degradation and introduced predators pose ongoing risks. Pitcairn Island's isolation provides some natural protection, but the species remains highly vulnerable due to its tiny geographic range and limited ability to disperse to alternative habitat.
