About These Birds
Red-wattled Lapwing
Red-wattled Lapwing: 32–35 cm, familiar South and Southeast Asian lapwing with red facial wattles, white cheeks, black cap, and yellow legs. Common resident throughout the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia in open country, farmland, and urban parks. Loud penetrating alarm call. Insectivorous. Highly sedentary; aggressive nest defender.

Spot-breasted Lapwing: 28–30 cm, Ethiopian highland endemic lapwing with a black head and breast spotted white, and red legs. Restricted to high-altitude moorland and montane grassland above 1,800 m in Ethiopia. Insectivorous. Sedentary; rare and little-studied. Declining due to overgrazing and agricultural encroachment.
