Apresenta uma banda acinzentada característica no pescoço. Habita florestas tropicais densas de baixada. Pouco conhecida, sendo registrada principalmente através de especímenes antigos.

Extremely common across sub-Saharan Africa from Ethiopia to South Africa, in open woodland, savanna, and farmland. Granivore of seeds and grain. Familiar garden bird throughout its range and one of Africa's most abundant doves. Least Concern.
