About These Birds
Rainbow-bearded Thornbill
Espigueiro-de-Herran (Chalcostigma herrani), 9–10 cm. Macho com garganta gorget laranja-rubro brilhante, coroa e dorso verdes, cauda escura. Habita páramos e matorrales de altitude nos Andes do Equador e Colômbia, acima de 3.000 m. Alimenta-se de néctar de plantas de altitude e pequenos insetos.
Rufous-booted Racket-tail
A small hummingbird (8-10 cm plus tail rackets) found in Andean cloud forests of southeastern Peru and Bolivia at 1,200-2,200 m. Males have rufous leg puffs instead of white. Recently split from Booted Racket-tail. Nectarivore of montane forest undergrowth.
