About These Birds
Flesh-footed Shearwater
41–45 cm, wingspan 99–107 cm. All-dark sooty-brown with pale flesh-coloured feet and yellowish bill base. Breeds southern Indian Ocean islands and SW Australia; ranges to North Pacific. Near Threatened; bycatch concern. Feeds on fish and squid; follows fishing vessels.
Masatierra Petrel
26–28 cm. Small; pale grey above with dark M-mark; white underparts with partial dark collar. Breeds Juan Fernandez and Desventuradas islands off Chile. Vulnerable; small range. Ranges in subtropical southeast Pacific; closely related to Cook's and Pycroft's petrels.
